Supervisor DeSena offered the following resolution and moved its adoption, which resolution was declared adopted after a poll of the members of this Board:

RESOLUTION NO. 258 - 2024

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE EXERCISE ROOM AT MICHAEL J. TULLY PARK BY ACTIVE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES PERSONNEL OF CERTAIN ENTITIES.

WHEREAS, pursuant to 19 NYCRR 426.6, volunteer fire fighters are required to meet certain basic physical fitness standards as measured by a “candidate physical ability test”; and,


WHEREAS, the State of New York mandates that, “[m]inimum basic fire training shall include a physical fitness program designed to develop and maintain the physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter,” see NYCRR 19 NYCRR 426.6 at subd. (f); and,


WHEREAS, the fire departments, fire company and ambulance corps identified below do not have sufficient space at their facilities for exercise equipment necessary for a program of physical fitness for their members; and, 


WHEREAS, this Board recognizes the courage, dedication and bravery of volunteer firefighters and emergency services personnel throughout the Town; and,


WHEREAS, this Board recognizes the financial relief provided to the taxpayers of the Town due to the volunteer nature of these fire departments and emergency services providers; and,


WHEREAS, the Town maintains an “exercise room” at Michael J. Tully Park (“Tully Park”), located at 1801 Evergreen Avenue, New Hyde Park, 11040, with sufficient space for the volunteer firefighters and emergency services providers at the enumerated fire departments, fire company and ambulance corps to utilize in order to meet physical fitness requirements of their positions; and


WHEREAS, Councilman Walsh has recommended that this Board authorize the use of the “exercise room” at Tully Park by active volunteer firefighters and emergency services at the enumerated fire departments, fire company and ambulance corps at a charge of $300.00 annually per fire department, fire company or ambulance corps for the use.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT


RESOLVED that the use of the “exercise room” at Tully Park is hereby authorized at a charge of $300.00 annually per fire department, fire company or ambulance corps for active members of the following entities:


(1)   East Williston Fire Department;


(2)   Williston Park Fire Department;


(3)   Plandome Fire Department;


(4)   Floral Park Centre Fire Company No.1, Inc.; and,


(5)   Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
