WHEREAS, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a month to celebrate and pay tribute to the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to American history, society, and culture; and
WHEREAS, the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States is inextricably tied to the story of the United States; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 20 million Asian American and Pacific Islanders who live in the United States, and through their actions, make the United States of America a more vibrant, prosperous, and secure Nation; and
WHEREAS, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders comprise many ethnicities and languages, and their many achievements embody the American experience; and
WHEREAS, since migrating to the United States, people of Asian and Pacific Island descent have shared their rich culture and traditions, have made valuable contributions to every aspect of American society, and represent an integral part of our community; and
WHEREAS, the Town of North Hempstead condemns hatred and bigotry wherever it exists, and stands with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities against hatred and bigotry in our community, Town and country; and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge the imperative for enhanced education and awareness regarding the history, stories, and contributions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community to American culture and society. Such efforts are essential for dismantling barriers and stereotypes, fostering a society characterized by greater understanding and appreciation for all; and
WHEREAS, in May, we recognize and honor the incredible contributions and heritage of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, which have helped us build a better North Hempstead and a better Nation, while also rededicating ourselves to advance inclusion, belonging, and acceptance for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Town of North Hempstead recognizes the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
