Councilperson Russell offered the following resolution and moved its adoption, which resolution was declared adopted after a poll of the members of this Board:

RESOLUTION NO. 220 - 2018

A RESOLUTION REDUCING PERMIT FEES FOR THE TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT KNOWN AS "SITE M" IN THE NEW CASSEL URBAN RENEWAL AREA.

        WHEREAS, the Town previously adopted the New Cassel Urban Renewal Plan (the “Plan”) for the New Cassel Urban Renewal Area (the “Area”); and

 

        WHEREAS, the goals and objectives of the Plan include, without limitation, the creation of new housing opportunities; and

 

        WHEREAS, as part of its effort to implement the plan and achieve its goals and objectives, the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency (the “Agency”) is sponsoring the redevelopment of the following properties:

(collectively “Site M” or the “Properties”); and

 

        WHEREAS, to make the redevelopment of the Properties more affordable, the Agency has recommended that the Board reduce the cost of construction by reducing building and highway permit fees to an amount equal to thirty-five (35%) percent of the amount required by the Town Code (the “Reduced Permitting Fees”); and

 

        WHEREAS, to pursue its policy goals of creating affordable residential units for low and moderate income families, the Board wishes to direct the Town Department of Building Safety, Inspection and Enforcement (the “Building Department”) and the Town Highway Department (the “Highway Department”) to charge Reduced Permitting Fees for the redevelopment of the Properties.

 

        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

 

        RESOLVED that the Town Board hereby authorizes the Building Department and the Highway Department to charge Reduced Permitting Fees for the redevelopment of the Properties; and be it further

 

        RESOLVED that the Commissioner of the Building Department and the Highway Superintendent are hereby authorized to take such other action as may be necessary to effectuate the foregoing.
